Niraja Gopal Jayal is a political scientist and Professor and Avantha Chair at the King’s India Institute, King’s College London. She is an expert on democracy, citizenship, representation, and governance, with a focus on India and comparative politics. Jayal has held academic positions at the London School of Economics and Jawaharlal Nehru University and has authored influential works on democratic institutions, political representation, and social justice. Her research combines theoretical insights with empirical analysis to understand political participation, state-society relations, and the dynamics of inclusion in democratic systems.
