Emmerich Davies

Biography

Emmerich Davies is currently a visiting scholar at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor of Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

His research focuses on the political economy of development, with a regional emphasis on South Asia, and comparative work in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa. He is particularly interested in the effects of education on citizen-state relations, political participation, socialization, and bureaucratic politics. His work has been published in leading journals such as Comparative Political Studies and Governance, and has received recognition from the Comparative International Education Society.

Emmerich holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in political science from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in political science and economics from Stanford University.

He teaches courses on education politics, the use of data in international development, and the political economy of development.
