Opportunities
Applications will be considered from Brown University regular faculty from any field to support research on contemporary South Asia or accelerated language training that is relevant to the region. This new annual call replaces the call for winter and summer fellowships issued in the past.
Proposals will be evaluated based on the quality of the proposed research or training and the potential for the activity to lead to a long-term successful program of research on the region. Special consideration will be given to applications from junior faculty, especially those for whom South Asia is a new area of research, as well as to projects that involve multiple faculty.
Award: Up to a $15,000 maximum per research project or $5,000 for language training. For research projects funds can be spent on travel expenses, data sets, costs of data collection including compensation for outside services. For language training funds can be spent on travel expenses and fees.
Eligibility: Any regular Brown University Faculty
Period: Awarded funds must be spent by September 1 2027.
Deadline: Monday, March 2, 2026 at NOON
Application Requirements: A five page project proposal, budget and CV. The proposal should discuss the anticipated schedule of the research, identify, where relevant, partners in South Asia and anticipated outputs from the research. Other supplemental funds and funding proposals should be clearly identified.
